Smartphone use and market penetration are at an all time high and its time to start thinking of advertising specifically on mobile devices. Just like with responsive and mobile websites, we may have the same content but can market or display it differently from a desktop to a mobile device.
Smartphones are now owned by 56% of Americans (the first time ever that it has reached over the 50% mark) and is only continuing to rise. This presents businesses with a new way to really capitalize and market their products or services, uniquely and effectively. As people start to use mobile devices more and more, having a way to get in front of them and to stand out from competition is imperative. In fact, research shows that a whopping 89% of users notice mobile ads!
Mobile ads tend to stick out more as they are newer and more unique to people. People have begun to get overexposed to television, physical and even online ads but mobile ads are still considered fairly fresh. You also have a better chance to stick out amongst other ads, from the mere fact that there are less ads displayed overall. With mobile devices, we have less room to advertise; which means fewer competing ads. For example, I did a test search for the keyword “plumber” on Google which returned 11 different advertisements within the search results. I immediately did the same search on my mobile device and only 6 different advertisements displayed. This allows you to get a greater ROI on your ads with the same amount of money or effort spent on other avenues.
From the info graph pictured above you can see the ads that make the most impression to a mobile user. “While in an app” is the most noticed type of mobile advertisement, you can see its definitely not the only one, and perhaps not the one for your business. From the list you can see that the next three are all places where you can advertise using a PPC (pay-per-click) advertising model such as Google AdWords to advertise.
