Building organic traffic is an investment in your business. While paid traffic and PPC has a place in your business, a majority of businesses would be foolish to not attempt generating organic traffic over the long haul.

SEO traffic is “free” once you have earned it. You needn’t pay per click. This means that Google (or another search engine) has found your content to be top notch and has placed your post or page near the top of certain searches. A few clicks on your page to find out information, and you’re given the opportunity to earn a customer.

Yet, many businesses has gotten frustrated attempting to garner SEO traffic. The process can be slow and tedious. Often, businesses see no results with an SEO program and immediately revert back to buying clicks.

So we wanted to offer our readers a simple guide to ensure SEO success and a plethora of organic traffic in your future.

Here it is:

Long Tail For The Win

Before you do any research or write any pages and posts, you must understand one thing – long tail keywords are your best friend. While a specialized offering may be able to find SEO traffic success on a 1-2 word keyword – most businesses will benefit from a 3-5 (up to 7) word keyword.

Do Your Research

You’re wasting your time working to build SEO traffic if you don’t do your research. Write down 10-20 different words or phrases directly related to your business and begin seeing which terms draw traffic. Open up Google AdWords or another free keyword tool (like Keyword Eye) and begin seeing what type of traffic your keyword is drawing.

This process can be pretty in-depth, but any keyword research is better than nothing. Select keywords pertaining to your business with high traffic and as low of competition as possible.

Brainstorming

Once you have your keywords created, you’ll want to begin brainstorming posts and pages you can optimize for each keyword. At a minimum, you’ll want 5-10 ideas you’re confident about.

Longer Is Better

Many businesses create posts and pages of around 500 words and then wonder why they aren’t getting as much SEO traffic as they had hoped. Well, here’s the dirty little secret – Google rewards longer articles because longer articles often have better content. Longer articles also allow a keyword to appear more often without stuffing.

Try to write around 1,000-1,500-word posts and pages, if SEO traffic is your “true” goal.

Start Off On The Right Foot

The first two paragraphs of your post or page are vital. You’ll need the long tail keyword of your choosing to appear in one of the first two sentences of the first two paragraphs on the page or post.

Simple Stuffing

It’s easy to natural keyword stuff an article over 1,000 words. After the first two paragraphs, you’ll want your keyword to show up two times in every three paragraphs.

More Paragraphs

The stuffing comes into play when you create more paragraphs. There’s no reason a post over 1,000 words couldn’t have 15-20 paragraphs. A 1,500-word post can easily have around 25 paragraphs. This allows your keyword to show up 8-18 times in one post or page.

Patience Is A Virtue

Lastly, you’ll need to have patience when using an SEO traffic strategy. You won’t see a boost in traffic until Google begins to pick up your piece for your chosen keywords. This can take at least 2-3 months on average.
