If you haven’t started planning your digital marketing strategy for 2018, there is still plenty of time. In fact, as a business owner you owe it to yourself not to make any hasty decisions about your digital marketing strategy for this coming year. Everything you decide to do should be part of a plan. If anyone should experience attention-grabbing “micro moments” this year, it is your potential customers or clients.

Micro Moments

Micro moments have a different definition depending on whether the term refers to a business or a consumer. For most consumers, micro moments occur when a particular product or service is so enticing that a want becomes a need in an instance. This occurrence is especially important when it comes to digital marketing for businesses.

You may have the best product on the market, but if you do not quickly grab the attention of the customer, they may move onto a competitor who has used a more attractive digital marketing strategy. A micro moment best describes the consumer’s reluctance to waste time on content that doesn’t tell them everything they want to know in a concise, and easy-to-follow format.

Take Advantage of Apps

Do not use apps to improve your digital marketing just for the sake of it. Search for apps that are specifically tailored for your business. For instance, an app that makes it easy to present before and after pictures in an attractive format are ideal for dentists, renovation businesses, and makeup artists.

“Find Local” apps, on the other hand, are best suited to businesses where casual footfall is important, such as retail stores, bars, or restaurants. You can connect with customers near you by building a presence on apps that use location preferences. Facebook Local is one example of an app that draws from data showing events, businesses, and friend activity based on location.

Stay in Tune with Social Media

Your 2017 social media strategy may not work in 2018 – or any subsequent year, for that matter. While you may adhere to the community standards of your chosen social media platforms, others are out there using the same strategies to exploit users. It is important to re-examine your social media marketing strategies and ensure your business does not ignore new usage guidelines.

Avoid social media strategies which exploit the user experience, rather than enhance it. Begging for likes and shares is becoming increasingly frowned upon by most social media platforms, as it is an easily exploitable strategy used by spammers (and honestly, it’s annoying right!?).  For 2018, you should consider focusing on making real connections with your customers that will inspire them to choose you as a trusted supplier of the product or service they are searching for.
